Ban the Sale of Fur in Vancouver, B.C.

Do you have a companion animal? I do, her name is Paisley, and I love her.

Can you imagine if the dog or cat that you love as much as a family member was subjected to extreme animal cruelty?

Every time I see someone wearing fur, I know that an animal has been brutally tortured and killed for no other reason than for fashion.

I think of these animals; confined in small dirty wire cages, unable to socialize resulting in untreated infections and cannibalism. Animals being caught in steel traps and suffering for days from blood loss, shock, dehydration, frostbite, gangrene, and attacks by predators. And then killed in the most horrific way; gassed, electrocuted, and sometimes skinned alive. Animals just like my dog, Paisley and it makes me cry.

Wearing fur for fashion is no longer acceptable and hundreds of top fashion designers have stopped using fur including; Burberry, John Galliano, DKNY, Versace, Michael Kors, Gucci, Giorgio Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, Stella McCartney, and Ralph Loren.

Fur fashion is cruel and the environmental and health risks associated with fur farming are contributing in a major way to climate change.

A ban on the sale of fur in our city would align with our green and compassionate values. We would follow other progressive cities, including; San Francisco and West Hollywood.

It would impact the fur farming industry which has been banned in Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, The Netherlands, Republic of Macedonia, Slovenia, UK and Northern Ireland and in the Belgian region of Wallonia and Brussels.

Think of the animal(s) in your life you love so much, think of the state of our climate and please sign and share my petition. Help me save the animals and our environment.

Thank you.
