Stop the merger of Griffith's public high schools support option 2
The issue
The Griffith community has been presented with two options for our public high schools, option 1 involves an investment of up to $25m to merge Wade High into Griffith High to create a "super school" which could cater for up to 1500 students. Option 2 would result in upgrades to both schools to the value of $10m.
It was made clear by the Education Minister Mr Piccoli at the meeting on the 21/11/16 that he will not entertain the idea of spending $25m over the two schools and that option 1 is the Government's preferred choice but the decision would come down to the community. However the only way the community can express their opinion is through the community consultation questionnaire which can be found at this link http://www.griffitheducation.com.au/community-consultation-questionnaire or through 2 information booths arranged by Sauce Communications a company based in Leeton which will only be open on 2 days 19/11 and the 25/11.
Based on the community feeling at the meetings held at Wade High School the majority of the community is against the idea for numerous reasons some of the main points raised included lack of choice for students, the numerous problems associated with large schools, the fact the schools would be at capacity within a couple of years based on the projected growth for Griffith, traffic issues and possible property depreciation in the East Griffith, Driver and Collina areas. I urge you to investigate these and other associated problems with one public high school in an area as large as Griffith.
As it is clear there is no option 3 or 4, if you would like to see Griffith keep both its public high schools please sign this petition in favour of Option 2, please also go on line and complete the community questionnaire and make it clear you support option 2. Unfortunately we have not been given a lot of time with the consultation process set to be wound up in around 2 weeks so I urge you to show your support for option 2 as soon as possible before option 1 is pushed through.
