Please consider signing if your child is experiencing long login times on district laptops or if their device is already dead by the time they need it. These technology challenges will be discussed at Tuesday’s LCISD board meeting.
The Texas Education Agency allows districts to implement BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) (personal laptops) policies, as long as the devices don’t have cellular capabilities. LCISD already has BYOD access enabled on its WiFi, so the option is available now to support faster and more reliable learning.
Many students are enrolled in college-level courses where dependable technology is critical. With demanding extracurricular schedules, they can’t always make up lost time, so it is essential they have working devices during class.
While the district does have two upcoming technology bonds on the ballot, a new state law requires ballot language to include in bold capital letters: “THIS IS A TAX INCREASE.” Unfortunately, many voters may not fully understand how school bonds work or that area growth in Fort Bend County will more than cover these costs.
Even if the bonds do pass, according to Chad Jones at the August 12 board meeting, students won’t see new technology until Fall 2026. Our kids can’t wait that long, they need access to dependable devices now through BYOD.
