Adopt a Recall Ordinance for CH

The Issue

The undersigned demand that our elected Village Trustees execute their duties in a way that demonstrates that they understand that they are the representatives of those who elected them, and as such make decisions that reflect their electors’ interests and desires.

Where trustees act in a way that is clearly outside of the desires of their electors, the electors require a mechanism through which they can remove those trustees without waiting for the next election cycle and before the trustees are able to inflict enduring damage and material costs through their acts that are hostile to their electors’ interests.

Accordingly, through this Petition, the undersigned are calling upon the Clarendon Hills Village Board to adopt a Recall ordinance through which registered voters of the Village can recall elected village officials.  Because Illinois lacks a statute that enables such actions state-wide, it is left to individual governmental bodies to adopt enabling ordinances for their individual jurisdictions.

A model ordinance which has been adopted by Mount Prospect, Illinois can be found through this link: https://bit.ly/3QVJ0xW  It provides for the recall of elected officials where over half of the electors vote in favor.  We ask that the Village Trustees expeditiously adopt the same so that Clarendon Hills citizens can meaningfully exercise their right of self-governance.

The Village Board will be presented with this Petition at the Saturday, April 25, 2026 special board meeting as called by the Board.
