
It looks like older people will be targeted in the Budget on 26 November, perhaps as a vindictive payback for our winter fuel success. There is strong conjecture that the Chancellor will increase income tax by 2p but balance that for workers by cutting 2p off national insurance. This would leave pensioners on modest and low incomes bearing the majority of the pain! Coupled with that there are indications that Rachel Reeves will extend the freeze on the lower tax threshold until 2030 to ensure that nearly all pensioners are brought within the tax system.
