Admissions in IIMs based on CAT result only

The Issue

Short listing in various IIMs primarily is based on a past academics and CAT results. Certain marks are given based on performance in class X, XII and graduation which when combined with CAT results, forms the base of short listing. So, if someone even gets 99.9 percentile but has low marks in academics, will lose out to a person who scored 96.1 percentile with high marks in academics. This is mostly unfavorable to students from regional boards as there is a tendency to award less marks by regional exam boards. As per the latest news, DU is planning to scrap considering board exam marks for admission in some of their courses due to the same reason ( https://www.telegraphindia.com/1170115/jsp/frontpage/story_130402.jsp#.WHsHnVy3J_k ).

A line from the above article says : "In the name of moderation, the CBSE increases marks by 15 per cent in many subjects every year. These boards' generosity has raised the admission cut-off for several courses."

Many students from CBSE/ICSE boards get upto 100% marks while crossing even 90% in regional board exams is a rare feat. Thus, this sabotage the chances of many a bright students to get in IIMs despite the fact that they are eligible and well-deserving candidates.

I would like to call upon all of you, please take a look at this petition and let the IIMs know that their selection criteria is faulty. It should not be based on past academics which gives unfair advantage to certain board students only. Rather, CAT results followed by PI/WAT/GD should be the only criteria.
