Red Tent Club
Nov 21, 2014
[Trigger warning for explicit discussions of murder and violence against transgender/nonbinary people.]
Yesterday was the national Transgender Day of Remembrance, founded to honor Rita Hester, a transgender woman killed in Massachusetts on Nov. 28, 1998. Her murder has yet to be solved.
There have been 81 reported murdered transgender people who have been murdered since Nov. 21, 2013. This number is only a fraction of those that have faced and/or died at the hands of violence.
We hope you took time to reflect on what this day means to you, regardless of your gender identity. What this day says to you, as someone who lives in a world with millions of transgender and non-binary people, alive and dead.
Yesterday hurt.
Yesterday, as today, as every day, we remembered those we are fighting for. Those hurt, those murdered, those whose names and faces have been lost. Those who started this movement. Those who are this movement every day. Yesterday, we remembered our pain.

We love you.
Thank you to every unknown trans boy, girl, woman, man, and person who has been the victim of a violence that they did not deserve, whose names we do not and cannot ever know because their bodies were beyond recognition.
May you rest in power and in peace.
Yesterday healed.
Yesterday, we remembered our gratitude, love, and appreciation for those we have lost. We remembered all that they have fought for, and all that they have achieved. We remembered the transgender and nonbinary artists, physicists, playwrights, sex workers, filmmakers, doctors, cashiers, social workers, authors, actresses, computer programmers, educators, mothers, fathers, parents, activists, people. Yesterday, we remembered our beauty, our worthiness, and our incredible humanity.
Today can heal.
Please continue to share this petition. Please continue to start and engage in meaningful dialogues with those who may not understand what it is or why it is important. It is important. We are important.
Y(ours) in love and solidarity.
