Ban Motor Boats on Rollins Pond in the Adirondacks

Ban Motor Boats on Rollins Pond in the Adirondacks
The Issue
Rollins pond is an amazing, pristine Adirondack lake on the edge of the St. Regis wilderness canoe area. Rollins pond hosts a unique NYS DEC campground that is almost exclusively used by persons with non-motorized watercraft (kayaks and canoes) who seek quiet and wilderness. However, a growing number of persons have been bringing motorboats to the lake. These degrade the ecosystem and disturb the semi-wilderness camping experience. The growing number of motorboats threaten the loon population on the pond and also are an easy conduit for invasive species to enter the pond. We urge the NYSDEC to ban motorboats on this pond. As a compromise, electric trolling motors could still be allowed.
