Improve Working Conditions For Adidas Laborers

The Issue

Problem
Adidas, much like many other major corporations, is guilty of mistreating their factory workers in countries such as Indonesia. According to the Adidas Workplace Standards, “Our aspiration, as set out in the core principles of our Workplace Standards, is that workers earn enough for their basic needs and also have income remaining to cover their discretionary spending as well as savings.” However, it is seen that this message is not being put into action. The wages their workers are getting paid often do not even cover basic needs. According to Asia Floor Wage, EUR363 would enable laborers and their families to live decent lives. Adidas, however, is granting wages of much less than the EUR363. Additionally, on July 23, 2012, 1,300 workers were dismissed by a factory in Indonesia because they participated in a protest against Adidas. Five years later, 327 workers have still not received their severance pay. Not only is the behavior from the company unjust to the workers, but it is also illegal. These workers’ lives seem to be of no importance to this major corporation, as Adidas continues to treat them with disrespect and provides them with terrible working conditions.

Solution
As a community, we must stand up for those workers who are not able to stand up for themselves. We must demand better working conditions for the laborers who are putting clothes on our back. By signing this petition, you are making a statement. A statement that you want to change the wrongdoings occurring in these factories. A statement not only for Adidas workers, but workers around the world who are getting abused by powerful businesses. We must band together and boycott Adidas. There will be no more purchases of Adidas merchandise until we see improved treatment of these laborers. It’s our time to take a stand against the injustices in our world!
