Adhere to NC SCOS at Clover Garden School

Adhere to NC SCOS at Clover Garden School
The Issue
As a concerned CGS parent, I am deeply troubled by the deviation from the established North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NC SCOS) within an 8th grade classroom that has been supported by administration. It has been brought to our attention that students are being exposed to curriculum that prioritize teaching "English in society" and the use of preferred pronouns, which I believe do not hold a place in the K-12 educational system. I strongly feel that our educational focus should remain on the foundational elements, such as proper grammar, syntax, and the clear, correct usage of singular and plural pronouns as dictated by the standard English rules.
The North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NC SCOS) provides clear guidelines and expectations for student learning. It is designed to equip students with the essential skills needed to succeed academically and in their future careers. Introducing topics such as preferred pronouns disrupts this framework and diverts attention away from the core subjects that will truly benefit our children in the long run. Our goal must be to maintain a clear, focused curriculum that adheres strictly to these standards and prepares our students for real-world challenges.
There is no statistical evidence to support the idea that understanding or using preferred pronouns improves educational outcomes. By sticking to the NC SCOS, we can ensure that our children receive an education that is both comprehensive and unbiased.
I urge the school board of Clover Garden School to revisit these curricular deviations and realign our educational focus with the NC SCOS. This move is critical for our children's education, ensuring they learn what is essential and necessary for their personal and professional success.
Please join me in signing this petition to make sure the educational path for our children stays true to the principles of the NC SCOS. Together, we can make a difference and safeguard the quality of education in Burlington, NC. Sign now to help our children receive the standard education they deserve.
