To give you an indication of how many obstacles we have faced to get justice for my son .....We were previously approached by a journalist who told us she had been approached by the original investigating officer of the case. This is the officer who just assumed Ricky had run away because, we being Indian, must have been trying to force him into and into an arranged marriage or that we had done something to him. The same one who ignored the fact that Ricky had been racially attacked and refused to accept the attack was linked to his death. The same one who told us, when Ricky was found, to stop asking questions and just accept he was fine and get on with our lives. The same officer who sought and conducted a third, extremely invasive post mortem of Ricky without our knowledge or consent. We only found out years later.
This officer retired and after his retirement told the journalist that he had graphic photographs of Ricky’s postmortem that he wanted the journalist to find a way to publish them in a national newspaper. He wanted to tell “his side of the story” and he somehow thought publishing these pictures would help. The journalist contacted me for comment. I successfully sought legal assistance to prevent publication. I shouldn’t have had to do this. In no world should it be ok for a retired officer to have possession of these kind of materials and then seek to publish them. Nobody had the right to publish these traumatising photos and this was a blatant attempt to strip Ricky of his dignity after he had already endured so much pain, racism and injustice and also an attempt to destroy his memories and dignity. NO FAMILY SHOULD HAVE TO SUFFER THIS INJUSTICE AND PAIN AND GRIEF. Thank you for reading and supporting Ricky and his family
