Address Unfair Labour Practices at Sevan Construction Limited
The Issue
Having witnessed fellow Nigerians face the indignity of losing their jobs without due process, it is imperative to draw attention to the unfair labor practices of Sevan Construction Company, located at Anthony - Oshodi Expressway, Before Barracks Bus stop, Lagos, Nigeria. This Syrian/ Lebanese-owned company has continually flouted the labour laws of Nigeria, leaving hard-working individuals jobless and disrespected.
Our labour laws exist for a reason: to protect workers from exploitation, unfair dismissals, and to ensure that everyone in the workforce is treated with dignity and fairness. Yet, at Sevan Construction Company, these laws seem non-existent. Employees are subjected to intimidation and arbitrary dismissals, with no recourse to proper legal channels or support. This is both unjust and illegal, particularly from a company that benefits from operating within Nigeria.
Foreign companies operating on Nigerian soil must adhere to our laws. When they don't, it reflects poorly on our nation's business environment and on the safeguards promised to every Nigerian worker. We cannot allow such practices to go unchecked when our friends, families, and fellow community members have their livelihoods compromised without due and fair process.
It's crucial for the relevant authorities in Lagos and nationwide to take immediate action to investigate Sevan Construction Company's labor practices. By holding them accountable, we protect the integrity of the Nigerian workforce and ensure a fair and respectful work environment for all.
