We, the residents of Pimpri Chinchwad, are deeply concerned about the rising number of street dogs and the serious challenges they pose to our safety, public hygiene, and peaceful community living. While we recognize that stray animals also deserve compassion and humane treatment, there is a pressing need to implement a balanced and structured approach to ensure the well-being of both residents and animals.

Street dogs in our area are often seen roaming in packs, creating a sense of unease and threat, particularly for children and elderly members of our community. The lack of proper food sources leads them to scavenge from garbage bins, further deteriorating public hygiene standards. Moreover, the absence of veterinary care and population control often results in unhealthy animals, leading to potential transmission of diseases.

According to studies, unsterilized female dogs can give birth to approximately 16 puppies a year. With no control measures, the numbers can rapidly grow, exacerbating the problem. Areas like Punawale, with inadequate infrastructure to deal with large stray populations, face serious risks.

We propose a comprehensive program involving sterilization, vaccination, and feeding centers for these animals to gradually reduce their numbers and improve their quality of life. Setting up collaborations with local animal welfare organizations and municipalities can help ensure a humane and effective approach to solving this issue.

Supporting initiatives to raise community awareness about coexisting peacefully with street animals is equally essential. Educating residents about the importance of not feeding stray dogs indiscriminately and reporting cases of aggressive behavior can also aid in maintaining harmony.
