Maneka Gandhi is an Indian politician, animal rights activist, and environmentalist. Born on August 26, 1956, she has been a member of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament, multiple times. A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Gandhi served as the Minister for Women and Child Development in the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from 2014 to 2019. Known for her strong advocacy for animal rights, she is the founder of the organization People For Animals. She is also a member of the Nehru-Gandhi Family, being the widow of the late politician Sanjay Gandhi, the son of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
