Petition Opposing the Proposed Safe Lot at Trinity Lutheran Church

We, the undersigned residents and business owners of the Indian Meadows, Spring Creek, and Mountain Kids Daycare area, respectfully request that the City of Fort Collins pause approval of the proposed Safe Lot at Trinity Lutheran Church and relocate the program to a more suitable site.

Our concern is not the Safe Lot program itself, but the location, which presents unique safety and environmental challenges:

• The Trinity Lutheran site is directly adjacent to Mountain Kids Daycare, placing young children next to overnight vehicle camping and related activity.

• The neighborhood already experiences higher levels of transient activity, loitering, and encampments along Spring Creek and the trail corridor.

• Residents regularly manage feces cleanup, trespassing, and abandoned camps, demonstrating that the area is already overburdened.

• The City has no financial commitment to the site, leaving the burden of security, sanitation, and monitoring on the church and Catholic Charities.

• Other churches and properties in Fort Collins have lower crime rates, fewer vulnerable adjacent uses, and stronger neighborhood support.

We request the City to:

1. Pause approval of the Trinity Lutheran Safe Lot.

2. Hold a formal neighborhood meeting with residents, Mountain Kids, Catholic Charities, and City staff.

3. Conduct a safety and crime‑impact analysis specific to the Trinity neighborhood.

4. Evaluate alternative locations better suited for overnight vehicle camping.

We support compassionate solutions for unhoused residents.

We simply ask that the Safe Lot be placed in a location that does not increase risk to children, residents, or businesses already experiencing disproportionate impacts.
