Address Human Rights Violations and Halt the Conflict in Gaza
The Issue
As a mother and a human being, I am deeply affected by the ongoing crisis in Gaza. The violation of human rights is not only alarming but also heartbreaking. Innocent civilians, mostly women, children and elderly are caught in the bombing, with their basic rights to life, such as security, and dignity being violated daily, shortage of water, food, electricity and medicine. They have nowhere to go, as there are no shelters and no humanitarian corridors whilst the bombs keep dropping on them in Gaza.
Gaza also belongs to one of the most densely populated parts of the world, with more than 40% of its population being children. According to the international law, Palestinians are being the victims of collective punishment as cutting off water supply, food and electricity for days to children, hospitals and innocent people, when the actual target should be Hamas, is a collective punishment. Not allowing fuel and enough medical supplies to hospitals and ambulances is a collective punishment. Deliberately bombarding escape routes for fleeing civilians, destroying churches, mosques, hospitals, schools, bakeries is war crime. Dropping artillery in the most densely populated residential areas is a war crime. Using phosphorus bombs in populated areas is lethal and a war crime.
Their oppressors are not showing ANY integrity when it comes to following war ethics and are targeting everyone ( journalists, UN members, international civilians stuck in Gaza etc ) and have no respect for the international law and continue to bombard all medical facilities in northern Gaza.
Palestinian civilians are also being oppressed daily not only in Gaza but also in West Bank. They have forbidden rights from their land, speech, freedom, building an economy and the right to be a human. According to UN reports, over 11000 people have now been killed, 1500 are still missing and 1,4 million displaced since the conflict escalated (source: United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs). This situation calls for immediate humanitarian aid to alleviate suffering.
I believe the enduring repercussions of this protracted conflict cast a shadow of profound and lasting harm upon both parties involved. On one hand, the population of Palestine, subjected to the persistent violation of their fundamental human rights, finds itself trapped in a cycle that nurtures resentment and hatred. Conversely, Israel that persistently transgresses the rights of others fosters a deeply detrimental perception regarding the intrinsic value of human existence and the sanctity of human life.
There is enough supporting evidence that the approach towards Palestinian citizens adopted by Israel fosters an environment in which its citizens may perceive a sustained sense of supremacy over humans of different ethnic and religious backgrounds, thus contributing to a potential breeding ground for notions of protracted superiority.
Moreover, we must advocate for an end to this conflict that has led to such immense loss of life and displacement. We urge world leaders and international organisations like UNICEF and Amnesty International to step forward with immediate aid provisions while working towards a peaceful resolution.
International law condemns occupation. Occupying land is illegal. Blockading territory is illegal. Restricting daily movements is illegal ( 600 checkpoints/roadblocks in Gaza). Resisting occupation is a legal right per Human Rights.
The time is now for us as global citizens to raise our voices against these atrocities. We need your help in amplifying this call for justice. I am not asking you sign this petition, I’m begging you to share and sign it, urging world leaders to address these human rights violations urgently and work towards ending the conflict in Gaza.
