I live in Lawrence, Massachusetts, a community where homelessness is a huge issue, and where many people often judge instead of offering support. This challenge is not only happening to my community; it is a global issue affecting many individuals. However, the issue of homelessness and people setting their own stereotypes on them in Lawrence is very concerning, and it's time we take action.

Homelessness is a serious issue with many misconceptions surrounding it. Many people falsely believe that those who are homeless are unwilling to work or choose their situation. In reality, homelessness can affect anyone, and there are many reasons as to why one ends up homeless, either from loss of employment, mental health struggles, to even the lack of affordable housing. According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, there is a shortage of affordable housing being offered to low income individuals. This means that when families can no longer afford to pay their rent, it leaves desperate families in need of assistance which then pushes the door to homelessness. 

To address this issue of homelessness in our community, we must step up and come together to take direct action.  Everyone deserves a safe and stable place to call home. Lawrence should prioritize a budget for the development of affordable housing projects to ensure that housing is available and affordable. Furthermore, when one is not able to afford rent, there should be an emergency rental assistance that can help individuals with their rent in order to prevent homelessness.  Additionally, community service is very important in the community.  Services that offer mental health support, addiction treatment, and job placement can help individuals experiencing homelessness to gain better stability and independence. Increasing job opportunities of great help to the community. This way, individuals have a stable job that will help them with their necessities, especially with paying rent!

It's important that we work together as a community, we must help each other. Anything is everything and together and we can change lives to build a more inclusive community.
