Address Food Shortage and High Cost of Living in Kenya

Address Food Shortage and High Cost of Living in Kenya
The Issue
I am a concerned citizen of Kenya, greatly affected by the current crisis that sees my fellow citizens and I grappling with joblessness and high cost of living. Every day, basic necessities become luxuries as prices soar unprecedentedly. Our nation faces a stark food shortage which further exacerbates the almost untenable situation.
According to a report by Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), the unemployment rate soared to 10.4% in 2020, a sharp increase from 5.3% in 2019. This means that more than one in every ten Kenyans is unemployed. To compound the situation, Bloomberg reported in April 2021 that food prices in Kenya had risen by 6.5% since the year prior.
This harsh reality calls for urgent and immediate government intervention. The government, through its relevant departments, ought to prioritize reducing the cost of living and implementing strategies to increase employment opportunities. Policies that bolster food security must also be put in place, and the local production of goods encouraged to cut down on imported inflation.
We cannot sit silently while fellow citizens struggle to afford a basic meal due to joblessness, food shortage, and high cost of living. It's time for our elected representatives to act immediately and decisively. Sign this petition to call upon government agencies to address the food shortage and high cost of living in Kenya. Let our voices, filled with urgency and the need for change, be heard.
