The Issue

As a concerned parent in the Bridgeport School District, I am raising my voice against an issue deeply personal to my family. My children, like many others, have been on the receiving end of unprovoked bullying from one particular student, with their only advice being to 'stay away from him.' This, however, is not a solution to the bullying occurring in our schools.

The disturbing part is the perceived favoritism from the school; a lack of action, an unwillingness to adequately address the issue, thereby seeming to indirectly encourage this inappropriate behavior. It is essential to know that, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, about 20% of students aged 12-18 experienced bullying nationwide in 2017. The emotional and psychological effects of such abusive treatment can have profound long-term impacts, affecting academic performance and overall mental health.

Children must be taught the values of respect and kindness towards others. A school environment should provide a safe place for our children to learn, grow, and thrive—not a place where they live in fear. It's time, as a community, to call for meaningful action.

We urge the Bridgeport School District to take immediate action, investigate our allegations, ensure the safety of our children, and enforce a strict zero-tolerance policy toward bullying. A proper measure should be put into place not only to address this issue but also prevent bullying in the future.

Let's protect our children. Sign this petition now.
