Address Equity Issue In Contracts Exams Accommodations
Address Equity Issue In Contracts Exams Accommodations
The Issue
I am asking fellow law students to support this petition urging the Faculty of Law to address an equity issue in Contracts exams. While exams were recently standardized to three hours, exam time for students with approved accommodations were not adjusted.
Goal: This petition asks students to support fair and appropriate time adjustments for peers with approved accommodations after the recent shift to a three-hour Contracts exam.
Why Care: Accommodations exist to ensure substantive equality, and when exam conditions change, they must be recalibrated to remain effective. This discrepancy disproportionately disadvantages students with disabilities. By signing, you support fairness, accessibility, and equity within our law school.
Why support fairness, accessibility, and equity?: Because supporting fairness, accessibility, and equity ensures that every student has a meaningful and equal opportunity to succeed.
Final Words:
Academic accommodations are what make law school possible for some students in an already intense and demanding environment. They allow students to be assessed for what they know and how hard they’ve worked, not for the barriers they face.
Supporting accessibility means standing up for one another... for a legal profession that is fairer, stronger, and more inclusive because of it.
