Address dog culling in Pakistan

The Issue

Throughout my childhood, I have seen animals treated with great empathy and kindness. Raised with values deeply rooted in compassion and respect for all living beings, it is deeply unsettling to witness the current level of cruelty towards dogs. It is with a heavy heart that I note the alarming rise in cases of dog poisoning, a barbaric act that not only goes against the moral teachings of Islam but also flies in the face of humanity's innate compassion.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) issued a directive in December 2025, explicitly ordering the end of such inhumane practices, yet, despite these legal directions, we continue to witness escalating acts of violence against stray dogs. This lack of adherence to the court's order not only breeds a culture of lawlessness but also sets a dangerous precedent encouraging further disrespect for life and legislation.

Dog culling through poisoning is not an effective or humane solution to control stray populations. It is shortsighted and inhumane, failing to address the root causes of the issue. There are alternative, more compassionate ways to manage stray dog populations, such as the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs, community education on coexisting with street animals, and increased funding for animal shelters.

I urge Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to take immediate and strict notice of these events. It is essential that we respect the directives of the Lahore High Court while promoting humane and sustainable solutions that align with both legal and ethical standards. Not only will this show our commitment to rule of law, but also demonstrate our compassion as a community.

Please stand with me in urging CM Maryam Nawaz to halt this unnecessary cruelty and pave the way for more humane treatment of animals in Pakistan. Sign this petition to demand an end to dog culling and a commitment to ethical and effective animal population control methods.
