The issue

This petition is born out of a personal tragedy. My beautiful daughter, Brontë Elouise Haskins, tragically died on 21st February 2020, after a reported suicide. Despite a coronial hearing conducted in 2022, the coroner decided that Brontë's death was a suicide, despite many anomalies and inconsistencies in the AFP coronial investigation report. In essence, Brontë should still be here today if it wasn't for systemic failures which simply allowed her to fall through the gaps - unnecessary failures.

Brontë's story is not unique. It highlights an urgent need to address co-occurring mental health issues and substance use problems within our society. We must act now to prevent more tragedies like Brontë's from happening again by improving access to comprehensive treatment services for those struggling with co-occurring disorders; enhancing training for healthcare professionals; implementing preventative measures; and ensuring thorough investigations into deaths related to these issues.

Please sign this petition today as we call upon policymakers at all levels of government – local, state, national – to take immediate action towards addressing these critical issues affecting thousands and thousands of individuals across our nation every day.
