The Issue

The recent changes made by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to the class 9th curriculum have left students in a state of anxiety and uncertainty. The late arrival of textbooks and the introduction of unexpected topics add to the stress of preparing for exams. Students across the board are experiencing a significant increase in pressure, impacting both academic performance and overall well-being.

One of the most notable concerns is the heavy emphasis on ancient Indian history, which appears excessive. In addition to this, students are expected to tackle a new "part 2" in subjects like Mathematics and Social Science, which haven't even been released yet. With half-yearly exams approaching, the uncertainty about what and how to study is overwhelming for many of us.

Moreover, the implementation of the third language rule, specifically making Sanskrit a compulsory subject, raises significant concerns. So many students, including myself, have opted for French or even another language, without any prior exposure or teaching in Sanskrit. This sudden change poses a massive challenge for those of us who must now learn an entirely new language from scratch.

Furthermore, the introduction of the "Art Integration" theory into the curriculum feels unnecessary and adds another layer of complexity that detracts from core study subjects. This makes the already burdensome workload even more unmanageable.

The issues highlighted are not just about the inefficiencies within the curriculum; they embody the collective concern of students who are genuinely struggling with these sudden and inadequately planned changes. CBSE should take urgent steps to address these issues by postponing the introduction of new topics until after the academic year, reconsidering the mandatory implementation of Sanskrit, and reviewing the necessity and timing of art integration.

We urge the authorities at CBSE to understand the strain these changes are causing and to adopt a more student-centric approach that takes into account the diverse demographics and preparedness of students. Revisiting these educational reforms is crucial for ensuring a balanced, fair, and effective learning environment.
