Addition of winter jacket, more comfortable sports pants (male + female), modal hijab etc.

The issue

Just clicking a couple times to sign this petition could change our uniform for the better.

Who is impacted and what is at stake?

If you are a student at any campus of Sirius College, there is a definite chance that although you may be comfortable in most items of clothing you wear, there is at least one item of the clothing you wear every single day that causes you discomfort.  This is due to deficiencies in the pre-existing items or need for new ones. We, as developing young people need to be accommodated for as much as possible and by addressing our clothing needs, we are thereby paving the way for ourselves to become the best versions of ourselves physically, mentally and academically because we are no longer have to worry about such trivial matters.

WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR:

More comfortable sports pants (male) — , Very loose and there is little adjustability. The material is too “light”, thin and weak. In need of a thicker material that doesn't rip easily and more adjustability. Many students break the dress code to wear a more comfortable option anyways, so rather than punish them for their discomfort, the school should accommodate.

More comfortable sports pants (female) – although the pockets have great depth it's largely futile considering there are no zips. Pants rip easily, especially at the knees and lower legs. The colour of the pants fades overtime in the wash, which gives it an old, raggedy feel.  A thicker material is needed, with a colour which does not fade and zips on the pockets.

Add a winter jacket to uniform – this is an essential item our school lacks in its normal school uniform, especially with Victorian weather. It is incumbent that we have an item which can be used for warmth and removed when unnecessary rather than being forced to choose if we will be sweltering hot or freezing cold in parts of the day.

A modal (if not, jersey) school scarf alongside the chiffon scarf – they are a more comfortable option especially on sports days, also provides more selection (please DO NOT remove the option of a chiffon scarf)  for hijabi students who make up a considerable portion of the school population. Many students break the dress code anyway to wear a modal scarf out of personal preference, comfort, or convenience so, again, rather than punish them for their discomfort, the school should accommodate.

Add an optional abaya (a long chiffon/rayon cardigan which can be closed) to the uniform — none of the school clothes include a truly “modest” option. You have the option of a messy outfit or the clothes (skirt/pants) are form fitting – this was a suggestion posed by both hijabi and non hijabi students, several times, indicating it is not a suggestion directly related to the adornment of hijab itself but one which has arised out of personal comfort.

Why is now the time to act?

Although high school is a small portion of one’s life, it is one of the most impactful on development and we should do everything we can to optimise our experience and the experience of Sirius College students for generations to come.
