Adding Wildlife Signage

The Issue

Each spring/summer the section First Line between Gilkinson and Spencer Drive in Elora sees a large goose population that comes to nest and have their babies annually. This road also sees a large deer presence throughout the year. I have asked Centre Wellington Public Works office to put up deer/goose crossing signs in this area to help alert both the locals and the tourists travelling on this stretch of road.

I was disappointed that Centre Wellington responded saying they would need to complete an "internal needs assessment monitored by one of their staff" and look at any "historical concerns/reports of animals being struck in the area". I am assuming that conducting a needs assessment would cost a great deal more than two signs and I am happy to support my request with proof (photos dating back to 2020 of the geese sitting on/blocking the road). In 2024, I was responsible for removing a deceased adult goose that was hit and killed on the road right in front of my house.

I would like to note that the speed limit on this particular section of road was also just reduced from 60km to 40km due to the high volume of traffic in the area.

By creating this petition and gathering signatures I am hoping it shows the county that the community is also concerned for the wellbeing of the wildlife - and with a few simple signs it would help to create awareness for drivers.
