You may have noticed some beautiful new photos & videos on the RISE Artisan Marketplace. Those were taken by Herman, Julie's husband. Herman and Julie have been together for many years and share three children. However, they just got married this year. They are pictured at their wedding above. (The person who attacked Julie was her ex-boyfriend and father of her oldest daughter.)
Herman is a photographer and videographer by profession. He works for an organization called Life House Uganda as a photography and computer tutor. He also has a photography business on the side, where he helps friends as a wedding photographer. Herman is now helping BTSI (Julie & Daniel's organization) grow by taking professional quality photos and videos of survivors to help tell their stories. We've asked him to make additional mini-documentaries of survivors to show how they make their products and where they get their materials. He is happy to do it, but asked if we had a camera that we could donate. To do the videos currently, Herman needs to rent a camera, which costs approximately $30 per day. This is a lot of money in Uganda, where the average monthly salary is $80.
So, we told Herman, let's reach out to our change.org community to ask! Does anyone have a camera that you could donate? We will plan to bring it with us to Uganda on our next trip. Please reach out to us here if so. Thank you!
