Anthropic’s CEO has publicly refused Pentagon demands to allow “any lawful use” of its A.I. tools, warning that mass domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapons could undermine democratic values.

More than 100 Google A.I. employees have also asked their company to draw clear red lines — opposing the use of A.I. for mass surveillance of Americans or weapons systems operating without human control.

This is not about weakening national defense. It is about protecting constitutional rights and ensuring powerful technologies are not deployed without safeguards.

Artificial intelligence can assemble vast amounts of personal data at massive scale. Without strict limits, that power could be used to monitor civilians or automate life-and-death decisions.

We say to the US government: we don't want it!

We call on President Donald Trump, Congress, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Defense to prohibit warrantless mass surveillance using A.I. tools and to ban fully autonomous weapons without meaningful human oversight.

National security must defend democratic values — not erode them.
