Add your name to prevent cervical cancer in a new generation of South Carolinians!

The Issue

For seven years in a row lawmakers have tried to pass the Cervical Cancer Prevention Act, a bill which would put life-saving information into the hands of parents about the HPV vaccine.  South Carolina has one of the highest rates of cervical cancer deaths in the country. The HPV vaccine would help with the prevention of this fatal disease, and yet half of South Carolina girls and 8 out of 10 South Carolina boys ages 13-17 have not been vaccinated. We can change this.

If passed, the Cervical Cancer Prevention Act (H.3204 & S.278) will allow the Department of Health and Environmental Control to offer the cervical cancer vaccination series to seventh grade students enrolled at any public or private school in the state. The act will also raise awareness of the HPV vaccine, help parents and guardians make informed decisions, and increase accessibility to vaccination.

Even though these bills have widespread support in the House, the Senate, and from Governor Nikki Haley, one senator, Senator Mike Fair, is holding up the vote.  With fewer than four working days left in the Senate we need to demand Sen. Fair stop blocking this bill.

Sign Tell Them’s petition and tell Sen. Fair to stop blocking H.3204 so we can pass the Cervical Cancer Prevention Act by June 4!
