Add Woman-Made to the Dictionary

The Issue

What do we call something built or made by humans? Man-made.

But what if it’s made by women? That’s still considered man-made.

Let’s change that.

We recognize that language has a profound impact in shaping perceptions and honoring contributions, which is why we're on this mission. We’re calling on dictionary publishers to acknowledge “woman-made” alongside “man-made” to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of women in skilled trades, throughout history, today, and in the future, and acknowledge the pivotal role they play in shaping our world.

We’ve witnessed firsthand the incredible contributions of women across various fields, yet their accomplishments often fade into the background. By embracing “woman-made,” we affirm the significance of recognizing and empowering women across all professions.

This isn’t just about words; it's about recognizing the remarkable skills of women in industries traditionally dominated by men. With your support, we can drive a significant change in language and mindset, shaping a future that's inclusive and empowering for all.

By standing with us in championing “woman-made,” you’re advocating for equity in skilled trades and women's careers. Together, let’s urge dictionary publishers to embrace “woman-made” and pave the way for a future where every woman's accomplishments are celebrated and honored.

Additionally, we encourage you to start incorporating “woman-made” into your daily language, reflecting the true diversity and inclusivity of human achievement.

Join us in celebrating women’s remarkable achievements and advocating for inclusivity in language.
