First, thank you. When I started this petition years ago, it was simple: October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the NFL’s platform can save lives by adding purple—not just pink—to its October presence. That message still matters.

Since then, we’ve seen too many headlines where “paper” (policies, restraining orders) wasn’t enough. Awareness + enforcement + resources save lives. So I’m relaunching this petition with 5 clear, doable steps for the league:

What we’re asking the NFL to do each October

  1. Uniform allowance (no fines): Permit purple accents—cleats, socks, towels, helmet decals—for players/coaches/staff.
  2. On-field visibility: Purple ribbons/decals and ribbon-board displays during at least one home game per team.
  3. PSAs: Short broadcast + in-stadium messages directing fans to the National DV Hotline (1-800-799-SAFE / text START to 88788 / thehotline.org).
  4. Local partnerships: Each club highlights a local DV organization (pregame feature, donation match, resource table).
  5. Education: A brief, survivor-centered session for players/staff with local experts every October.

How you can help this week

  • Share the petition: https://c.org/rSbgMGgfgm
  • Tag on social: @NFL @nflcommish @NFLFoundation @espnW @TheHotline and your team (e.g., @ChicagoBears).
  • Email your team’s community relations office:

“Please support Domestic Violence Awareness Month by adding purple in October and partnering with a local DV organization. Here’s the petition with specific steps: https://c.org/rSbgMGgfgm

This effort has been covered by media in the past, and I believe we can make even more progress together now. Purple doesn’t replace pink—it stands beside it. Survivors, families, and communities deserve both visibility and protection.

If you’re in immediate danger, call 911. For confidential, 24/7 help (U.S.): 1-800-799-SAFE (7233), text START to 88788, or chat at TheHotline.org.

With gratitude,
