Add Pickleball Courts to Mizzou's Campus
The Issue
As a student at Mizzou, I've found playing pickleball to be an essential part of my life. It not only helps me stay active and relieve stress but also offers a fantastic opportunity to socialize and connect with friends. Having pickleball courts on campus would enhance this experience for many other students, fostering a stronger sense of community and well-being. Pickleball is rapidly growing in popularity across the United States, offering an inclusive and accessible sport that appeals to people of all ages and athletic abilities. According to data from the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA), pickleball has seen a 21.3% increase in participants from 2019 to 2020 alone. This trend signifies a rising interest in the sport, making it a perfect addition to an active and dynamic campus like Mizzou. Furthermore, providing dedicated pickleball courts would complement our university's commitment to encouraging healthy lifestyles and offering diverse recreational activities. With over 30,000 students at Mizzou, introducing pickleball courts could also alleviate congestion on existing sports facilities, giving students more options for engaging in physical activities. Constructing pickleball courts would not only cater to current players but would also attract new enthusiasts, promoting healthier habits across the student body. It presents an opportunity to host tournaments, further enhancing campus life and potentially drawing interest from the broader Columbia community, providing a win-win situation for both students and the locals. Let's advocate for our preferred recreational activity and show our administration that there is a significant demand for pickleball courts at Mizzou. By signing this petition, you can help bring attention to this opportunity and support a positive change that will benefit us all. Let's make pickleball a part of our campus culture!
