The Issue

I have personally experienced the challenges of the fast-paced A and B sessions at Arizona State University (ASU) online. Like many students, I find it difficult to keep up with the rapid pace, especially in subjects like math and science that require more time and effort to fully understand and excel in. As an ASU online student, I've witnessed how these compressed sessions can lead to unnecessary stress, lower grades, and a general feeling of defeat among students who are striving to succeed in their academic pursuits.

Currently, the majority of ASU online classes are structured into A and B sessions, each lasting approximately 7.5 weeks. This accelerated format often results in students feeling overwhelmed as they are bombarded with assignments, exams, and crucial concepts in a short timeframe. As a result, their potential to truly engage with the material and gain a deep understanding is severely limited. This rushed approach not only affects our learning today but could impact our future professional readiness and opportunities.

The solution to this pressing issue is to increase the offering of full semester C sessions, which span across the entire 15-week period. By providing classes in a more traditional timeframe, students will have the ability to absorb material at a more reasonable pace, leading to better comprehension and retention of information. Such a change could significantly decrease dropout rates and improve retention by allowing students to manage their workload more effectively without compromising on quality education.

Research supports the notion that more extended periods of study are linked with deeper understanding and higher academic success. According to educational experts, giving students adequate time to process information enhances the learning experience, thus bolstering confidence and academic achievement.

I urge the administration at ASU to consider revising its current session structure and offer more full semester C sessions for courses, particularly those that are traditionally challenging. This adjustment would benefit not only the students by empowering them to excel academically but would also enhance ASU's reputation as an institution committed to the success and well-being of its students.

Please join me in signing this petition to advocate for the expansion of full semester C sessions at ASU online. Together, we can make a positive change that will impact thousands of students, helping them to achieve their academic goals.
