Add lights to the local dog park
The Issue
Every morning, a group of dedicated dog lovers gathers at our local dog park between 6:00 AM and 7:30 AM. For many, it's the perfect start to their day and a cherished routine before heading off to work. However, as the mornings grow darker with the onset of fall, we find ourselves almost blindly navigating our beloved space with the help of flashlights. The lack of proper lighting not only dampens our spirits but poses a real risk to our safety.
What concerns us even more is the potential danger to the elderly members of our group. The entrance to the dog park, with its uneven surface, becomes a hazard. A simple misstep could easily lead to accidents or falls, especially in the darkness. While other parks in the area benefit from at least some lighting, our dog park, unfortunately, remains pitch black, both in the early mornings and after sunset.
Proper lighting is more than just a convenience; it’s a matter of safety and accessibility. Ensuring that the park is well-lit can drastically reduce the risk of falls, make the park more accessible to everyone, and encourage more community members to enjoy its benefits during all open hours. Moreover, lighting up the park could deter any unwanted activities, ensuring it remains a safe place for community interaction and enjoyment.
We urge the city council to take immediate action by installing adequate lighting in our dog park. A basic but effective lighting system could make a world of difference for so many residents who rely on the park as an essential part of their daily lives. It's a small but meaningful investment in our community's well-being.
Let's come together to create a safer, brighter space for everyone, both two-legged and four-legged. Please sign this petition to help us press for the installation of lights at the dog park. Your support could be the beacon of change our park needs.
