Throughout elementary and high school, there was never lessons on LGBTQIA+ history including the stone wall riots and several protests nationwide in order for LGBTQIA+ people to gain their rights to marry and legally change their gender. As well as conversion therapy and the suffering people had to live through. In my final year of high school I received several negative comments simple because I wore my pronouns and a rainbow pin on my backpack, and I know countless people in the district and province who have experienced this as well. The best way to combat negativity is to educate. With the addition of LGBTQIA+ history more people will change their views. This petition is going straight to the BC Ministry of Education in hopes of changing the curriculum to include LGBTQIA+ history.
