The Issue

In the years since the A30 stretch between Roseworthy and Loggans Moor was constructed, our community has witnessed numerous incidents. Some tragically resulting in fatalities. One of the most heartbreaking incidents was the recent loss of two young boys, aged just five and eight. These tragedies resonate deeply, affecting families and traumatising the community.

While it is easy to attribute such accidents to tourists unfamiliar with our roads, it’s crucial to acknowledge that a local was arrested in relation to the latest tragic event. This serves as a stark reminder that these incidents can happen at any time, irrespective of the season or the drivers' origin. This is not just a problem blamed on outsiders; it’s an ongoing threat to everyone using this road.

The A30 is a crucial artery for many, but its safety record is unacceptable. We believe that by adding a central reservation and implementing more traffic calming measures, we can drastically reduce the risk of further casualties. These measures can include speed reductions, upgraded signage, and better lighting, effectively making the stretch safer for both locals and visitors alike.

Numerous studies have found that central reservations and traffic calming not only reduce vehicle speeds but significantly lower the likelihood of head-on collisions, which have been sadly prevalent on this stretch of the A30. Adding these features would be an actionable step towards prioritising safety and saving lives.

We urge the local council and relevant authorities to recognise the urgency of this matter and to act swiftly in making these essential improvements. Our community should not have to endure further tragedies when viable solutions are available.

Please sign this petition if you believe in making our roads safer for everyone who travels them. Together, we can advocate for the changes needed to protect our loved ones and prevent more senseless losses.
