Add Carbon Footprint 'traffic lights' to food and drink.

Add Carbon Footprint 'traffic lights' to food and drink.
The Issue
Over 26% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions come from food and drink! We are calling on Sainsbury's to take the lead by introducing carbon footprint 'traffic lights' to groceries so we can all do our bit to get this figure down.
The majority of us are aware we need to make changes and want to reduce our carbon footprint but understanding which foods to choose and which to avoid isn't always easy. The type of food we buy, whether it's locally grown, whether it's seasonal or hot-housed, whether it's locally produced, shipped or flown, the type of packaging used, all influence the overall carbon footprint of the food we buy. It's complicated.
This is where Sainsbury's can help. Sainsbury's led the way in adding a traffic light system to show the nutritional value of food. We are calling on you to lead again by adding a similar carbon footprint scale to pre-packed groceries and on the shelf edges of loose produce.
Help us make informed choices for all of our futures. Thank you.
