  Мы, народ Рэспублікі Беларусь, просім кампанію Meta дадаць беларускую мову ў Instagram і Threads, для нас гэта вельмі важна. 

  Для англамоўных людзей словы "Belarusian" і "Russian" гучаць вельмі падобна, але насамрэч яны апісваюць абсалютна розныя рэчы. Рэспубліка Беларусь — асобная еўрапейская краіна з доўгай гісторыяй і сваёй уласнай мовай, якая таксама існуе не адно стагоддзе. Беларуская мова не дыялект і не падвід рускай ці украінскай — гэта асобная самастойная паўнавартасная мова, якая заслугоўвае прысутнасці ў міжнародных сэрвісах. Насельніцтва Беларусі складае 9 мільёнаў чалавек, якія з'яўляюцца актыўнымі карыстальнікамі Instagram і Threads, але мы вымушаны карыстацца расійскай, украінскай альбо англійскай версіямі сэрвісаў Meta па той прычыне, што нашая родная мова ў іх адсутнічае. Гэта мае некалькі негатыўных аспектаў:

  1. Выклікае нязручнасці пры карыстанні.

  2. Стварэнне ілюзіі непаўнавартаснасці нашага народу як сярод саміх беларусаў, так і сярод людзей з іншых краін.

  3. Выглядае наўпрост несправядлівым, што Instagram існуе ўжо 15 гадоў, у ім прадстаўлена вялікая колькасць моў, а беларусы ўсё так жа вымушаны карыстацца чужымі мовамі.

  Наяўнасць у сэрвісе нацыянальнай мовы павялічвае лаяльнасць людзей да прадукту і кампаніі. Нярэдка беларусы аддаюць перавагу менавіта тым сэрвісам і прадуктам, дзе прысутнічае беларуская мова. Такім чынам, беларуская лакалізацыя выгадна і для самой кампаніі Meta. 

  Як аўтар петыцыі асобна хачу дадаць, што гатовы арганізаваць для кампаніі Meta як каманду прафесійных перакладчыкаў, так і каманду мовазнаўцаў-валанцёраў для выканання перакладу зараз і падтрымцы беларускай версіі сэрвісаў у будучыні.

Будзем рады пачуць вашую рэакцыю на гэтую просьбу

  We are the people of the Republic of Belarus, ask Meta to add the Belarusian language to Instagram and Threads, as this is very important to us.

  For English speakers, the words “Belarusian” and “Russian” may sound very similar, but in reality they describe completely different things. The Republic of Belarus is a separate European country with a long history and its own language, which has also existed for many centuries. Belarusian is not a dialect or a subtype of Russian or Ukrainian — it is an independent, fully developed language in its own right, and it deserves to be present in international services. The population of Belarus is 9 million people, who are active users of Instagram and Threads, but we are forced to use the Russian, Ukrainian, or English versions of Meta’s services simply because our native language is not available. This has several negative consequences:

  1. It creates inconvenience when using the services.

  2. It creates an illusion of inferiority of our nation, both among Belarusians themselves and among people from other countries.

  3. It appears plainly unfair that Instagram has existed for 15 years, offers a large number of languages, yet Belarusians are still forced to use other languages.

  Having a national language available in a service increases people’s loyalty to the product and the company. Belarusians often prefer services and products that support the Belarusian language. Therefore, Belarusian version is beneficial for Meta itself.

  As the author of the petition, I would also like to add that I am ready to organize for Meta both a team of professional translators and a team of volunteer linguists to carry out the translation now and to support the Belarusian version of the services in the future.
