The Issue

Update June 2026:

First, a huge thank you to everyone who has signed, commented, and supported. This response has been incredible.

Because of your support, we’ve officially started working with Cosumnes CSD to organize a 4-week evening badminton pilot program at Wackford Gym this September (final details coming soon!). 🏸

A quick note:
When you sign the petition, Change.org may ask for a donation—but that goes to their platform, not to this effort. Signing alone is more than enough to support us. If you’d like to help further, the most important thing will be showing up to play in September (the $10 drop-in participation is what will determine if this becomes permanent).

We’re not at the finish line yet—the next phase depends on strong, consistent turnout. Let’s keep the momentum going and make this a permanent program for Elk Grove!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elk Grove residents currently have very limited access to badminton facilities, despite the city offering open gym time for other sports like basketball and volleyball.

Badminton is a popular, low-impact sport suitable for all ages — from kids to seniors — and is widely played in nearby cities like Sacramento, Folsom, and Rancho Cordova. However, Elk Grove residents must travel 20–40 minutes to access public badminton courts, creating a barrier for regular participation.

We are requesting the City of Elk Grove Parks and Recreation Department to introduce badminton open gym hours at existing community centers or gyms. This could be done by:

  • Adding badminton lines and portable nets to existing gyms
  • Allocating specific time slots for badminton, similar to other drop-in sports
  • Running a pilot program to measure community interest and participation

Providing badminton access would:

  • Promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles
  • Offer an inclusive sport for all age groups and skill levels
  • Better utilize existing public facilities
  • Meet the needs of a growing and diverse community

We, the undersigned, ask the City of Elk Grove to support this initiative and bring badminton access to our community.
