We are 2 steps away from victory.

It has been a LONG 4 months. Grueling! However, we are 2 steps away from Florida becoming the 5th state to require AAPI history in public schools! I can't even believe I just typed that.

Last week our bill almost died. My team and I drove to Tallahassee and hit the pavement as they say at the Capitol. We saved the bill. I will be doing a podcast episode on how exactly that happened, but in short - we have insurance on the bill.

Our language has been amended to HB 1537 and SB 1430 - THE EDUCATION BILL of the session. Huge shout out to Rep. Rizo and Senator Avila for adopting us! Our lead sponsors Rep. Plasencia and Rep. Rodriguez of our original bills HB 287 andSB 294 fought hard to make this happen too. We are so grateful to the support of Florida legislators in making this a priority.

WHAT'S NEXT?

We just passed the House floor vote - UNANIMOUSLY for both our original bill and the new one! Next week we will likely see the same result on the Senate floor.

AND THEN >>> the Governor will hopefully SIGN THE BILL! 

We still have a couple of tricky steps left, but I can finally breathe again and am hoping that my last trip to Tallahassee was this week. The ceremonial bill signing date is tbd, and I hope to be present when that finally happens.
