Add an opt-in 18+ “Mature Language” voice chat setting in Call of Duty

The Issue

Recently, I found myself banned from voice chat in Call of Duty for 14 days after responding in frustration when I was insulted. In a game rated for adults, this feels unjust. I believe mature players like myself should have the choice to engage in a separate, opt-in voice chat setting designed for mature language without facing consequences for non-hateful swearing.

Call of Duty, a game series known for its intense gameplay and mature themes, is rated 18+, which inherently implies an understanding of mature content by its users. Yet, the current voice chat system fails to differentiate between hate speech - which undeniably deserves punishment - and mature language used in jest or in stressful gameplay moments. I propose that Activision introduces a separate "Mature Language" voice chat setting which allows consenting adults to communicate more freely, while maintaining strict enforcement against language or behavior that qualifies as hate speech or threats.

Implementing this opt-in feature caters to the adult audience who wish to enjoy the game fully, respecting both personal freedom and maintaining community standards. This would not only enhance the gaming experience for many but could also reduce instances of unfair bans where strategic expletives are misinterpreted as hostile.

We call on Activision to recognize the diversity of its player base and provide accommodations that respect adult gamers' autonomy. By doing so, they uphold a standard of fairness and respect, fostering a more enjoyable gaming environment.
