Cates Creek Park is one of the best parks in Hillsborough, NC, offering a family-friendly environment. However, it currently lacks essential amenities that could enhance the experience for residents and visitors alike. Notably, the park does not have basketball courts or sufficient covered picnic shelters, facilities that are critical given the town's continued growth.

The need for basketball courts is apparent. In this part of town (south Hillsborough), there are no options for residents to enjoy a game of (full court) basketball within a public park, which limits recreational opportunities and community gathering activities. Adding basketball courts in the park's field area, while keeping existing soccer fields, would cater to the growing populace's diverse interests and promote an active lifestyle.

Moreover, Hillsborough's hot summer days necessitate shaded areas for comfort. Covered picnic shelters near the restrooms and skatepark would provide vital shade and comfort, benefiting particularly our older people and children. Such amenities allow visitors to enjoy their time at the park more, creating a welcoming environment for snacks or leisurely picnics without the discomfort of direct sun exposure.

These enhancements are crucial for a park in a non-flood zone area like Cates Creek Park, making it more accessible and usable all year round. This development aligns with the community's evolving needs and supports more family and community-friendly activities.
