Add Afrikaans to Duolingo

The Issue

Duolingo is a vital platform, serving around 300 million people globally. However Afrikaans, a language spoken by approximately 7 million people in South Africa, is not offered on the platform. Afrikaans is not only an important cultural language but also a medium of instruction in South African schools and universities. By including this in their language course offering, Duolingo can promote understanding, tolerance, and global communication. Adding Afrikaans will not only benefit the South African population but also people across the world who are interested in broadening their linguistic and cultural horizon. therefore, we respectfully urge Duolingo to consider adding an Afrikaans course to their curriculum. Help promote linguistic diversity and educational access – sign this petition now. [Sources: UNESCO Institute for Statistics, South African Census Bureau]
