The Issue

Every day, I navigate the busy intersection of Colton Ave. and Orange Street in Redlands, and with each journey, I witness the hazards posed by the lack of a dedicated left-turn arrow. As a frequent traveler through this area, I've experienced firsthand the risk that drivers face when trying to make a left turn while simultaneously yielding to oncoming traffic. It is not merely inconvenient, but dangerous, particularly during peak hours when traffic is at its heaviest.

The intersection, located near a popular Stater Brothers, experiences significant traffic congestion, heightening the risk of collisions. The current requirement for left-turning vehicles to yield, without the guidance and safety of a dedicated arrow, has resulted in numerous accidents.

Transportation safety is crucial, and it is the responsibility of our local authorities to ensure that our roads are safe and efficient for everyone. According to research by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a large proportion of road accidents occur at intersections. The introduction of dedicated turn signals is a proven method to decrease these incidents, enhancing both the safety and flow of vehicles.

By adding a turn arrow at the Colton and Orange Street intersection, we can significantly reduce the likelihood of accidents and improve the daily commute for countless drivers. This simple yet effective measure will not only improve traffic conditions but also safeguard the welfare of our community members.

We call upon the City of Redlands' transportation department to take immediate action by installing a dedicated left-turn arrow at this crucial intersection. This enhancement is not just a matter of convenience but a pressing safety issue that demands our collective attention.

Let's prevent accidents before they happen. Sign this petition to urge our city officials to prioritize and implement these changes for a safer Redlands.
