Add a produce section to Dollar General in Hemphill, Texas
The Issue
Living in Hemphill, Texas, has its charms—tranquility, beautiful landscapes, and a tight-knit community spirit. However, for many of us who call this rural area home, getting fresh produce is a significant challenge. Personally, I often find myself traveling 32 miles round trip to the nearest full grocery store just to pick up fruits and vegetables essential for my family. This is an inconvenience shared by many in our community, including both full-time residents and seasonal visitors alike.
When we got the news of a new Dollar General opening at 8779 SH 87 in Hemphill, there was a glimmer of hope that our problem might be addressed. Many of us were excited to hear rumors that it would include a produce section, anticipating the convenience of buying fresh items locally without the long drive. Unfortunately, when the store opened, we discovered that a produce section was not among its offerings, much to our disappointment.
Hemphill and its surrounding areas are largely rural, meaning accessibility to fresh produce is already a significant hurdle for many. The nearest comprehensive grocery store is miles away, a considerable distance for seniors, families with young children, and anyone without direct access to transportation. Incorporating a produce section in the Dollar General would make a meaningful difference to our lives, providing easy access to fresh, healthy food options, and reducing the excessive time and travel burden currently required.
Other Dollar General locations around the country have begun to successfully integrate fresh produce into their stores, strengthening their community ties and increasing the convenience offered to their customers. Adding a produce section to the Hemphill store would bolster Dollar General's position as an essential part of our local community, showing that it values the health and well-being of its customers.
By supporting this petition, you're calling on Dollar General management to listen to the needs of Hemphill's residents. We believe that with collective voices, we can encourage Dollar General to upgrade its offerings to better serve the community it resides in. Please support us in this effort to gain a produce section at the Dollar General on SH 87.
