Add a financial/money management period into secondary school timetables from year 7.

The Issue

Today, the majority of the UK youth are struggling financially - taking out credit cards, loans and car finance - leaving themselves to pay off debt until their mid-late twenties. This in return keeps them from leaving home and getting onto the property ladder, mortgages and even rental applications won't be accepted due to this.

Due to the above, the housing market is suffering, due to the lack of first time buyers but more importantly, this is playing a HUGE factor into the mental health of those affected by their financial decisions - which really, a lot of the time, is expected to happen, due to the lack of financial education from a young age.

If companies and governments are going to increase the risk of getting into debt with advertisements of 'cheap car finance' and 'great loan options', without allowing our youth to have the understandings of APR percentages and loan terms, they are doing it wrong and are condemning them from the very start.

By introducing financial/money management periods into our secondary school timetables each week, this can really instil a wealth of knowledge into students, giving them a real understanding of how money management can really be the difference between a relatively easier adult life, as opposed to being mentally distraught by the time they are 25.

It is and has been happening to too many people I know and I really do think this needs to change.
