The Issue

In the scenic town of Oceanside, NY, many families are blessed with the natural beauty surrounding them, yet they find themselves with a notable absence—a children’s park within walking distance of their homes. Particularly in the area around Marine Nature Park in Wedgewood, parents with young children are yearning for a safe and engaging place for their kids to play and socialize.

The Marine Nature Park provides a wonderful natural setting, abundant with the sights and sounds of the ocean and various bird species. However, its vast, unused spaces could be better utilized. By adding a bird and marine-themed children's park, we can create a vibrant new space that not only allows children to engage in much-needed physical activity but also fosters their curiosity about the wildlife surrounding them.

A park designed with the local wildlife theme in mind could include interactive play structures shaped like boats or birds, educational panels about local species, and shaded picnic areas for families. Such features would greatly enrich the lives of children and parents alike while harmonizing with the park's mission to celebrate the area's natural beauty.

Beyond merely providing a recreational outlet, a children’s park could serve as a crucial community hub, encouraging friendships and connections among local families. This would undoubtedly enhance the social fabric of Oceanside and create a more inclusive and engaging environment for all.

I urge the local government and community leaders in Oceanside, NY, to consider this proposal. Implementing this project will not only address the urgent need for more accessible play areas but will also enhance the cultural and ecological value of Wedgewood Marine Nature Park.

Let’s join together to advocate for this meaningful addition to our community. Please sign this petition to help make our vision a reality and ensure that the children of Oceanside have a dedicated place to play, learn, and grow.
