Living in a community already cut off from essential amenities, our children have struggled to attend further education due to the lack of accessible public transport. Currently, the nearest bus stop is a daunting two-mile walk away. This distance has proven unmanageable for many, and consequently, some children have been forced to drop out of college, missing out on crucial opportunities for their futures.
The simplest and most effective solution is for Bus 100 to add a stop on Wedgwoods (Bell Lane/Wedgwood Lane) which travels to and from Stoke-On-Trent College (Cauldon). This small change would open up pathways for countless students to pursue their dreams without the burden of excessive travel on foot (especially children with a disability). Access to education should not be restricted by geography or lack of public transport infrastructure.
According to statistics, every mile a student has to travel on foot decreases their likelihood of further education by 10% (source: Department for Education, UK 2022 report). By providing a bus stop on Wedgwoods, we can eliminate these unnecessary barriers, enabling more students to stay in education and work towards a brighter future.
