The Issue

To all residents and outdoor enthusiasts of Liberty County, we are reaching out with an urgent request for the addition of a boat ramp at the FM 787 Trinity River Bridge during the upcoming construction work. By adding a new boat ramp during the bridge construction at the FM 787, we would not only enhance the recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike but also significantly boost the local economy. Local businesses, such as the bait shop in Romayor, stand to benefit from increased traffic brought about by fishing enthusiasts attracted to the improved river access. This would also aide the game wardens in having access to this part of the river during search & rescue situations, including the Romayor fire department & volunteers. Although the bridge construction won’t take place until 2028-2030 this will give ample time to get as many signatures as possible as well as giving them time to add this to the plans. Moreover, such a facility would serve as a safe and convenient entry point to the Trinity River, encouraging more people to engage in and appreciate nature right in our backyard. This addition would foster a greater sense of community and pride in our natural surroundings. We urge the concerned authorities to recognize this essential need and incorporate the boat ramp into the planned construction work. It is a practical move that promises numerous benefits, from boosting local commerce to enhancing the quality of life in Liberty County. Please join us by signing this petition and help us make this much-needed improvement a reality for everyone in our community.

“Thank you for taking the time to share your interest in improving access to the Trinity River near FM 787. We appreciate the public's engagement and recognize the value that boat ramps can provide for recreation, tourism, and emergency access. While TxDOT maintains certain existing boat ramp facilities located on state highway right of way through agreements with partner agencies, the development of new public boat ramps is typically the responsibility of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department or another local sponsoring agency. TxDOT's primary role is to support the safe and efficient movement of people and goods through the transportation system. We encourage interested stakeholders to coordinate with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and local government partners regarding opportunities for future boat ramp development. Please let me know if we can be of any further assistance. Take Care, TxDOT- Beaumont District [Note: The Change.org Civic Engagement Team reaches out to decision makers to let them know about petitions in their community and to help facilitate engagement with supporters. The above was an email response we received regarding this petition.]”
