The Issue

Navigating the intersection at Utah and Douglas has become both frustrating and hazardous for drivers and pedestrians alike. I’ve personally experienced the challenges of trying to turn onto Utah from southbound Douglas or onto northbound Douglas from Utah, especially during peak traffic times. The continuous flow of vehicles, coupled with the absence of stop signs on Douglas between Alaska and El Segundo, encourages drivers to speed recklessly. This reckless driving not only jeopardizes the safety of fellow drivers but also poses risks to pedestrians, cyclists, and scooter riders.

The situation is dire: multiple accidents have occurred at this very intersection, evidence of the perilous nature of the current traffic flow. These incidents could have been preventable with better traffic management and control measures. Installing stop signs for both northbound and southbound lanes on Douglas at this intersection would slow down traffic, significantly reducing the risks of accidents and creating a safer and more navigable route for all users.

Studies have shown that stop signs can effectively calm traffic and enhance safety at intersections by controlling vehicle speeds and providing clear instructions for right-of-way. In our neighborhood, ensuring the well-being and safety of residents and commuters must be a priority. We cannot afford further delays in implementing this necessary change.

As members of this community, we urge the local traffic authority to take immediate action by installing a 3-way stop sign at the intersection of Utah and Douglas. This change will not only improve traffic flow but also safeguard the lives of countless individuals who rely on this intersection daily.

Please join me in advocating for this crucial adjustment to make our community safer. Sign this petition and let's work together to prevent further accidents and protect the well-being of everyone in our neighborhood.
