Adapt School Schedules to State's Climatic Conditions and Implement NEP for Syllabus Only
The Issue
As the mother of a young student who endures extreme heat during his afternoon shift at school, I am acutely aware of the challenge that inappropriate school timing can pose to the health and wellbeing of children. In April and May, the temperatures in and around Mumbai significantly rises alongwith humidity, making the mid-day heat quite unbearable, and yet our children are expected to attend school.
During the months of April & May, temperatures regularly cross 40 degrees Celsius. In these harsh conditions, pouring over textbooks and concentrating in classrooms not only becomes strenuous but also harmful to the young ones' health.
I propose that we adapt our school schedules according to our state's climatic conditions to prevent unnecessary health risks. By implementing a schedule that avoids the peak heat hours, we can ensure a suitable and healthy learning environment for our children. Also we suggest, the current year closing for schools in & around Mumbai by 10th April & reopening the fresh class after vacations from June. Also, kids need to relax completely during vacations as they undergo lots of stress during the whole academic year. If the next academic year class is started before vacation, they also tend to forget it when the school reopens.
Moreover, the National Education Policy (NEP), designed to overhaul the education system, should focus specifically on enriching the syllabus. The NEP's proposed changes can play a significant role in enhancing the academic quality provided to our children. But the school schedule should be solely left with the respective States to decide as per their climatic condition. Under the guise of uniformity, scheduling the school uniformly throughout the country is not fair & just.
Join me in this effort to make our children's health and education a priority. Together, we can make a difference and ensure the well-being of our youth and their future. Please, sign this petition today.
